Spain Imposes Fines for Improper Use of Connected V16 Emergency Beacons

Netun Solutions introduced the V16 connected emergency beacon, a device that replaces traditional roadside triangles and transmits the vehicle’s location to traffic‑management platforms in real time. The system, called Incidence, distributes the data anonymously to drivers, traffic control centres, roadside assistance firms and emergency services, aiming to shorten response times and prevent secondary collisions.

The Spanish Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) announced that drivers must activate both the V16 beacon and the vehicle’s warning lights during a breakdown. Failure to do so or misuse of the lights can result in fines of €80 to €200. The DGT also reinforced storage guidelines for the beacon and stressed that the beacon does not replace the traditional warning lights.
