Spain installs elevators to improve accessibility at Mutxamel town hall and Granada's Cartuja Monastery

The Mutxamel town hall in Spain will undergo a four‑month construction project to install an external, panoramic elevator on the rear facade of its 1970‑era building. The work, budgeted at €273,529 (including VAT), includes demolition of the current cleaning room, reconfiguration of interior corridors, restrooms and a widened access ramp to remove two steps.

Separately, the Monastery of the Cartuja in Granada is advancing a long‑standing plan to add a lift that will serve the upper platform, currently reachable only by stairs. The project, promoted by the Archdiocese of Granada, aims to improve access for older visitors and those with reduced mobility. Approval by the provincial heritage commission is still pending, and no construction timetable or budget has been disclosed yet.
