Spain integrates ARACNE anti-drone system into national air defense
During the ATLAS 26 exercises held in Huelva from October 19 to 23, the ARACNE counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) demonstrated successful integration into Spain’s national air defense architecture. Developed jointly by Indra and EM&E Group, the system connected directly to the Aerospace Operations Command (MOA) via the COAAAS+ Anti-Aircraft Artillery Operations Centre.
This unified architecture allows for a common tactical picture, shortening decision-making cycles and enabling intelligent threat prioritization. The system is designed to counter drone swarms and saturation attacks by automatically selecting the most appropriate sensors and effectors based on target trajectory and risk.
The development comes amid increasing regional drone proliferation. While Morocco has significantly modernized its military with various drone platforms, analysts suggest Spain’s reinforcement of its anti-drone shield aims to address asymmetrical threats and secure strategic borders within the NATO framework.
