Spain introduces new P‑1e traffic sign as Portugal tightens driving‑licence renewal rules

Spain’s Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) has added a new red‑triangular P‑1e sign to the official road‑sign catalogue under Royal Decree 465/2025. The sign warns drivers of danger where a road segment has multiple direct accesses, requiring traffic on the main road to yield to merging vehicles. Its entry into force is set for July 2025, with gradual installation on new sections or when existing signs are replaced.

Portugal has clarified that driving licences issued in 2013 remain valid for 15 years for light‑vehicle and motorcycle categories. After this period the physical document expires, and driving with an expired licence is treated as driving without a licence, carrying fines, possible vehicle seizure and disqualification. Renewal must be requested before the expiry date, can be done online (with a 10 % discount), and may require a medical assessment for drivers over 50. Address changes must be reported within 60 days to ensure official communications reach the correct location; renewals for drivers over 70 are required every two years.
