Spain issues alert for Salmonella in Egyptian tahini
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued a food alert following the detection of Salmonella spp. in Arkan brand ‘Pure Sesame Tahini’. The product originates from Egypt and is packaged in 400g plastic jars.
The affected product is identified by lot number 0257502493 with an expiration date of 12/2027. While initial distribution was concentrated in Catalonia, Madrid, and the Basque Country, authorities warn that the product may have been redistributed to other autonomous communities.
The alert was triggered via the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) following a notification from health authorities in Malta. AESAN advises consumers to refrain from eating the affected lot and to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, fever, or headaches after consumption.
