Spain joins EU initiative to accelerate autonomous vehicle deployment
Spain has signed a declaration of intent to join a European Union initiative aimed at accelerating the deployment of autonomous vehicles. The agreement was signed in Brussels by Spain's Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and the European Commission's Vice President for Industry, Stéphane Séjourné.
The initiative seeks to establish a harmonized framework for the approval, testing, and operation of autonomous vehicles across different European nations. By developing common technical requirements and exchanging information on homologation processes, the project aims to facilitate commercial deployment and ensure interoperability within the single market. This move is intended to bolster European competitiveness in the strategic automotive and mobility sectors.
