Spain Justice Secretary warns of AI bias risks
Spain’s Secretary of State for Justice, Manuel Olmedo, has called for the protection of fundamental rights against the risks posed by artificial intelligence. Speaking at an event organized by the LGBTI Business Network for Diversity and Inclusion (REDI), Olmedo highlighted the danger of algorithmic biases reproducing or amplifying discrimination, particularly against the LGBTI community.
Olmedo noted that while AI can help build more efficient and inclusive institutions, its development must be accompanied by transparency, responsibility, and legal guarantees. He emphasized that the fight against discrimination is a shared responsibility between institutions, businesses, and civil society, particularly in sensitive areas such as automated decision-making and recruitment processes.
