Spain and Chile unveil AI projects in tourism, housing, education and water
A group of University of Almería students received an award for the inclusive tourism service “Almeripass”, designed to help people with mobility challenges access cultural and gastronomic experiences in Almería.
Chile joined the United Nations‑led AI Capacity Coalition, pledging to offer hundreds of free online AI courses nationwide. Minister Ximena Lincoln said, “AI is transforming all industries and training ensures no one is left behind.”
Madrid’s municipal housing agency and the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos were recognised with the AVS award for the SCAMIA system, which uses digital twins, IoT sensors, BIM models and artificial intelligence to manage public housing assets more efficiently.
The municipality of l’Alfàs del Pi and the University of Alicante signed a partnership to create the Observatory of Education and Artificial Intelligence, aiming to pilot ethical, inclusive AI applications in schools and become a model for digital education.
In Avilés, a €10.6 million water‑digitalisation programme equipped the river‑flow network with sensors and AI tools developed with the University of Oviedo, enabling real‑time monitoring and predictive management of water supply and wastewater.
A Spanish public‑sector summer course highlighted further AI promotion through open‑source hackathons, university collaborations and joint work with the EU and UN, stressing the potential of “agentic AI” to boost productivity and protect fundamental rights.
