Spain launches F-112 Roger de Lauria frigate in Ferrol

The Navantia shipyard in Ferrol is scheduled to launch the F-112 Roger de Lauria frigate this Tuesday. This vessel is the second unit in the F-110 series commissioned by the Spanish Navy to replace the Santa María class ships.

Writer Almudena de Arteaga will serve as the ship's godmother. As a direct descendant of the 13th-century Admiral Roger de Lauria, her participation is intended to create a symbolic link between the historical figure and the new naval unit. The launch is occurring several months ahead of the original schedule.

The event follows the launch of the first unit, the F-111 Bonifaz, in September 2025. While the shipyard continues production, local unions have raised concerns regarding the industrial strategic plan and the number of job vacancies required to meet the workload of the frigate program.
