Spain launches 'Punto Implícate' pilot to collect construction packaging waste

The IMPLICA collective responsibility system for producers (SCRAP), together with construction chemicals firm Sika and waste‑management company Grupo Veralia, has begun a pilot project called “Punto Implícate” in Spain. The initiative sets up free collection points at Veralia’s PRO centre where builders, renovators and installers can deposit used packaging from paints, adhesives, sealants, varnishes and solvents – including non‑hazardous plastics, paper, cardboard, metal and contaminated plastics. The programme aims to improve material recovery, cut transport to distant facilities, keep construction sites cleaner and help companies meet environmental regulations, thereby advancing a circular‑economy model for the sector. IMPLICA director Laura Sanz emphasized that “our objective is to bring waste management to where it is generated”, while Sika’s product‑management and sustainability lead Ana Arenas noted the frequent queries from small firms on proper disposal and the company’s commitment to extend sustainability beyond its own factories.

The pilot’s first collection point is hosted at Veralia’s centre, with clear guidelines that containers must be emptied and sorted by material before disposal. Organisers expect the model to be replicated across other regions if successful.
