Spain launches Verano Joven 2026 travel discounts for youth

The Spanish government has approved the fourth edition of the Verano Joven programme for summer 2026, allocating about €130 million to provide steep fare reductions for young travellers aged 18‑30. Eligible participants – Spanish citizens or legal residents in Spain – must register on the Ministry of Transport’s website and receive a personal, non‑transferable code to apply the discounts.

Discounts run from 1 July to 30 September 2026 and include up to 90 % off on state‑run medium‑distance and narrow‑gauge trains and regular bus services, a 50 % cut on Avant, AVE, Avlo and long‑distance services (capped at €30 per ticket), and a 50 % reduction on the Interrail Global Flexible 10‑day pass when sold by Renfe. Renfe has begun selling the discounted tickets, and the programme aims to encourage public‑transport use, stimulate tourism and support youth mobility.

Since its launch in 2023, more than four million young people have used Verano Joven, making over 16 million discounted trips. The 2026 edition seeks to repeat that success by facilitating affordable travel across Spain and Europe for the next generation.
