Spain launches Verano Joven 2026 youth travel discount programme

The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Mobility Sustainable has introduced the Verano Joven 2026 programme, allocating €130 million to give Spanish residents aged 18‑30 discounts of up to 90 % on train and bus tickets between 1 July and 30 September 2026. Eligible users must be born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2008 and hold Spanish nationality. Discounts apply to medium‑distance rail (90 %), high‑speed services (50 % up to €30), Avant, Interrail Global Passes and state‑run bus routes. Applicants register online at veranojoven.transportes.gob.es at least 24 hours before purchase to obtain a discount code.

At the same time, travel operators are promoting a range of low‑cost summer destinations for Spanish tourists. Kayak forecasts a surge in international travel, highlighting offers such as Singapore flights from Madrid for €749, a five‑day Lanzarote package for €385, and a 13‑day Peru tour for €1,999. These promotions complement the government‑backed discounts, aiming to boost youth mobility across Europe and beyond during the 2026 summer season.
