Spain Lawn Care Guide: Aeration Benefits and Summer Watering Tips

Aerating a lawn breaks up compacted thatch, allowing nutrients, water and air to reach the roots. The process stimulates deeper root growth, supports earthworm activity and reduces disease risk. Simple tools such as a garden fork or dedicated aerators can be used, ideally when the soil is moist. Spring is the preferred time for warm‑season grasses, while fall works best for cool‑season varieties.

During hot summer months, especially in Mediterranean climates, lawns can turn yellow as heat, intense sunlight and low humidity stress the grass. Common mistakes include insufficient watering, mowing too short and over‑fertilising. Experts advise deep, infrequent watering, maintaining a higher mowing height and avoiding additional stressors to keep the turf healthy through the season.
