Spain qualifies for Davis Cup Finals after defeating Chile
Spain has qualified for the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna after a dominant performance against Chile. The Spanish team secured their spot with a 4-0 series victory at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago.
Following singles wins by Daniel Mérida and Rafael Jódar on Saturday, the Spanish doubles pair of Jaume Munar and Pedro Martínez sealed the qualification on Sunday with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 victory over Chile's Alejandro Tabilo and Tomás Barrios. The win marked the end of Chile's 15-year unbeaten home record in Davis Cup ties.
Chilean captain Nicolás Massú expressed a commitment to resilience despite the loss, noting that the team must continue to work hard. Spanish captain David Ferrer commented on the high level of his squad, stating that having more quality players to choose from, including the potential return of Carlos Alcaraz, is a “beautiful problem” to have.
Spain will join other top teams, including Italy, Great Britain, Germany, and the Czech Republic, in the Finals scheduled for late November.
