Spain-Libya trade reaches €2.59 billion in first half of 2026

Trade between Spain and Libya saw substantial growth during the first half of 2026. According to data released by the Spanish Embassy in Libya, total trade between the two nations reached approximately €2.59 billion, an increase of over €1 billion compared to the same period in 2025.

Spanish exports to the Libyan market rose by 114.6%, totaling €324.5 million. Conversely, imports of Libyan products into Spain increased by 66.8%, amounting to €2.267 billion. Despite the surge in Spanish exports, Libya maintained a significant trade surplus, with Libyan exports to Spain exceeding Spanish imports by roughly €1.94 billion.

Energy remains a central component of the commercial relationship, with Libya serving as a key supplier to European markets. Recent developments facilitating this economic activity include the resumption of direct flights between Tripoli and Madrid and the organization of the Libyan Spanish Economic Forum.
