Spain: Minister Torres addresses Ceuta migrant evictions and voting rights controversy

Spanish Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced a discrete operation in the Príncipe neighborhood of Ceuta to evict 200 migrants from private properties, including homes and garages. Torres noted that since August 10, 13,101 people have been returned to Morocco, and approximately 6,000 of the 8,000 available shelter spots in the city are currently occupied.

Separately, Torres called for a resolution to the judicial controversy surrounding the 'law of grandchildren' (ley de nietos) before the general elections on November 29. This follows a Supreme Court requirement for the government to provide a list of 163,020 citizens affected by a precautionary suspension of their voting rights. Torres argued that the suspension constitutes a violation of constitutional rights, particularly for individuals who previously voted in the 2023 regional and 2024 European elections.
