Spain Ministry of Equality report identifies vulnerable profiles in gender violence

The 2024 Annual Report from the Spanish Ministry of Equality reveals that 49 women were killed by partners or ex-partners in Spain during 2024. Of these victims, 25 were Spanish nationals.

The report highlights two primary vulnerable groups: middle-aged women with children and women over the age of 70. Women aged 41 to 50 accounted for 28.6% of the murders (14 victims), while those aged 31 to 40 accounted for 13 victims. For the middle-aged group, vulnerability is linked to cohabitation and family responsibilities, as 44.9% of victims in this bracket had at least two children and nearly 69% of all women killed in 2024 were living with their aggressor at the time of the crime.

In contrast, women over 70 face risks associated with prolonged isolation. In 90.8% of murders within this age group, no prior report had been filed against the aggressor. Overall, 67.3% of all women murdered in 2024 had not previously contacted law enforcement.
