Spain: Mother of Tàrrega murder victim seeks Juvenile Law reform
Silvia Guerrero, the mother of an 18-year-old killed by a minor in Tàrrega in 2025, has received a letter from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressing condolences and affirming the priority of victim protection.
Guerrero’s campaign, which gathered 100,000 signatures on Change.org, calls for the reform of the Juvenile Law (Llei del Menor) to impose harsher penalties for serious crimes. While the Prime Minister noted that the law has undergone modifications, Guerrero argues that the last significant changes occurred 20 years ago and that the current legal framework prevents adequate sentencing for grave offenses based on the age of the perpetrator.
