Spain mourns death of poet Vicente García and novelist Luis Goytisolo

Poet Vicente García, a 55‑year‑old writer from Gijón, died on Sunday. He was a regular contributor to literary magazines such as Clarín and Anáfora and authored collections including De ayer a hoy, Días de tormenta, Años otoñales, and a recent poem in the journal Ítaca. Friends described his style as clear, simple and deeply personal. A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday at the Cabueñes funeral home.

Novelist Luis Goytisolo, aged 91, also passed away. A member of the Royal Spanish Academy since 1994, Goytisolo earned numerous literary prizes, among them the Biblioteca Breve, the Premio Ciudad de Barcelona, the Crítica, the Nacional de Narrativa and the 2013 Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas. He is best known for his novel Antagonía, considered a landmark of late‑20th‑century Spanish literature. Tributes highlighted his enduring influence on contemporary narrative forms.
