Spain moves ahead with major AI‑hydrogen hub in Huelva and sustainable hydroelectric pilot in Granada

Go Energy Group announced a privately funded investment of more than €10 billion to build an integrated AI data‑center campus in Huelva. The complex will combine over 1 GW of IT capacity with on‑site photovoltaic generation, battery storage and renewable hydrogen production, plus low‑emission ammonia facilities. Three sites spaced within five kilometres will be linked to provide power for large‑scale cloud and AI workloads while supplying their own clean energy.

Separately, the EU‑funded HydroPulse programme, backed by Horizon Europe, launched a 42‑month project in the province of Granada to develop digitally‑enhanced, climate‑resilient hydroelectric plants. Partners including Cetaqua, Emsagra, Cuerva, Cartif and IREC will test real‑time river monitoring, artificial‑intelligence forecasting and predictive management at the Monachil river plant and the Canales reservoir. The aim is to optimise electricity generation, protect ecological flows and improve water‑resource sustainability amid drought and decarbonisation pressures.

Both initiatives underline Spain’s push to integrate advanced technologies with renewable energy infrastructure, targeting higher efficiency, lower emissions and greater energy security.
