Spain offers non-contributory pensions for legal residents

In Spain, individuals who have not contributed enough to the social security system may be eligible for a non-contributory pension (Estepensión no contributiva de jubilación). This benefit is available to both Spanish citizens and legal residents of other nationalities, including Romanians.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 65 years old and have maintained legal residence in Spain for at least 10 years between the age of 16 and the date of application. Within those 10 years, the final two years must be consecutive and immediately preceding the request. Additionally, for single individuals, annual personal income must remain below a specific threshold, which is projected to be 8,803.20 euros in 2026.
