Spain offers up to €30,000 incentives for rural settlers and boosts greenhouse automation

The Spanish government has introduced a rural repopulation program that can provide subsidies of up to €30,000 for young people under 35 who buy or renovate homes in municipalities with fewer than 10,000 residents, prioritising villages under 5,000 inhabitants. The aid covers up to 20 % of property value, energy‑efficiency upgrades, digital infrastructure and related taxes.

At the same time, Spain’s greenhouse sector is undergoing rapid automation. Large facilities in Almería are deploying artificial‑intelligence inspection systems, robotic pallet handlers and autonomous transport vehicles to offset rising labour costs and stricter environmental rules. The sector supplies around 40 % of Europe’s fresh vegetables in winter months and aims to remain competitive against lower‑cost producers worldwide.
