Spain pet-friendly tourism market shows significant growth
Pet-friendly tourism is becoming a significant and expanding market segment in Spain, with an expected annual growth rate of 10% in the coming years. This trend is driven by a shift in the relationship between humans and their pets, alongside a 14% increase in the pet population over the last five years, which now exceeds 15 million animals.
According to the ‘Pet-money’ report by EAE Business School, the pet sector in Spain generated 5,770 million euros in 2023 and supports approximately 75,000 direct jobs across more than 12,000 companies.
While adaptation varies by sector, Ignasi Solana of Aedpac notes that parks and beaches show an 86% adaptation rate, hospitality stands at 68%, and travel and accommodation at 58%. Industry leaders suggest that the tourism sector still needs to improve by developing better protocols, training, and providing clearer information for pet owners.
