Spain pilots forest‑fire sensor network and launches citizen alert app

The municipality of Alcoy in Spain has begun a pilot of a LoRaWAN‑based sensor system in the Font Roja natural park. Developed by the company Loriot, the network records temperature, humidity, wind and precipitation in real time and calculates the flammability of the forest, providing early‑warning data to forest rangers and emergency teams. If successful, the system could be expanded to other areas of the Sierra.

In Galicia, the free mobile application ALume has been released for Android and iOS. The app lets anyone report a fire instantly, sending precise GPS coordinates, photos and voice notes to emergency services. Since its launch it has recorded over 7,000 downloads and 200 alerts, aiming to shorten response times and involve the public in protecting the region’s forests.
