Spain: Political shifts in Jaén and Alicante
Political shifts are occurring across the Valencian Community and Jaén. In Jaén, Carlos Alberca and Ángeles Díaz have resigned from their positions as PSOE councillors in the Jaén City Council following Alberca’s loss in the party primaries to Mayor Julio Millán. Díaz stated she will focus entirely on her role in the Andalusian Parliament.
In Alicante, Vox deputy spokesperson Mario Ortolá announced he will step down from frontline politics at the end of the current municipal term in May 2027. Meanwhile, the PSPV-PSOE group has urged Mayor Luis Barcala to unblock a €44.7 million tender for the maintenance of Alicante’s green spaces, which has been suspended since early September.
In the broader Valencian Community, regional president Pérez Llorca presented a government programme consisting of approximately fifty measures aimed at future stability. This follows his leadership during the reconstruction efforts after catastrophic flooding in the Valencia province.
