Spain: Poverty and social exclusion rates analyzed in Navarra and Balearic Islands

Recent reports on poverty and social exclusion in Spain highlight complex economic realities in Navarra and the Balearic Islands.

In Navarra, the AROPE rate (At Risk of Poverty or Social Exclusion) stands at 16.5%, affecting approximately 113,000 people. While current indicators show improvement compared to the national average, the rate has nearly doubled since 2008, when it was 8.6%. The region remains significantly above the levels required to meet the 2030 Agenda goals.

In the Balearic Islands, the AROPE rate has dropped to 15.2%, its lowest level since 2014. However, despite this statistical improvement and high tourism activity, economic poverty has risen to 11.6%. Approximately 190,000 people in the islands live in poverty, with nearly half experiencing severe deprivation. Challenges include housing access, precarious employment, and a high risk of exclusion among minors, with one in four children affected.
