Spain prepares final 25 billion euro request for Next Generation EU funds

The Spanish government has begun preparations for its seventh and final request for Next Generation EU funds, totaling approximately 25 billion euros. This final phase includes 21.46 billion euros in transfers and 4.4 billion euros in loans, contingent upon the evaluation of 148 milestones and objectives.

Spain has recently received a sixth disbursement of 6.234 billion euros from the European Commission. This brings the total amount received to 78 billion euros, representing 76.5% of the 102 billion euros allocated to the country. The funds are part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, aimed at modernizing the economy, improving sustainable mobility, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Finance Minister Arcadi España noted that the government is working to complete the plan before the end of 2026. The administration aims to submit the final payment requests before the end of September to conclude the mechanism within the established timeframe.
