Spain prepares to multiply battery storage capacity

Spain is positioned to significantly expand its battery storage capacity, potentially multiplying its current levels within 18 months. This development is part of a broader push toward energy transition and the management of renewable energy surpluses.

According to the Global Energy Transition Outlook 2025 by DNV, only 6.6% of current solar installations include storage systems. Because renewable sources like solar and wind are intermittent and dependent on weather conditions, battery storage is essential to charge during periods of high production and discharge during peak demand. This technology helps stabilize the grid and can prevent drastic price fluctuations by making renewable energy more reliable and manageable.
