Spain presents White Paper on acute pain management

The Spanish Congress of Deputies hosted the presentation of the ‘White Paper on Acute Pain in Spain’. This multidisciplinary document analyzes the current state of acute pain management in the country and offers consensus-based recommendations to improve the healthcare model.

Developed with the participation of scientific societies, health professionals, academic experts, and patient organizations, the report identifies critical areas for improvement. Key proposals include enhancing early attention, establishing standardized protocols, and preventing the progression of pain into chronic conditions.

The document advocates for optimizing care pathways, promoting multidisciplinary models, and strengthening the systematic evaluation and registration of pain as a quality indicator within the National Health System. It also emphasizes a person-centered approach to care that looks beyond clinical impact.
