Spain promotes DGT traffic app and ITV inspections for safer summer travel
The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) recommends that drivers use its official Etraffic service ahead of the busy summer travel season. The platform offers a real‑time interactive map of Spain’s road network, colour‑coded traffic conditions (blue for normal flow, yellow for irregular flow and red for serious congestion) and detailed incident reports to help motorists adjust routes and avoid delays.
Separately, Spanish authorities stress the importance of the mandatory Inspección Técnica de Vehículos (ITV). Roughly 30 % of cars lack a valid ITV, exposing drivers to fines of €200‑€500 and increased accident risk. The campaign notes that in Galicia, especially the province of Ourense (33 % non‑compliance), many drivers skip the inspection due to daily vehicle use. Officials reiterate that passing the ITV saves lives and influences insurance and liability assessments after crashes.
