Spain receives €6,234 million sixth tranche of EU recovery funds

The European Commission has released a sixth tranche of €6,234 million to Spain from the NextGenerationEU recovery fund. This disbursement, part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), consists of €5,226 million in grants and €1,008 million in loans. To date, Spain has received a total of €78,000 million, representing 76.5% of its total allocated funds.

The funds are designated for various strategic sectors, including sustainable mobility, housing, social protection, healthcare, digital transformation, and public administration modernization. The recent payment includes €265 million related to the digitalization of local authorities and tax reform milestones.

Spain is now entering the final stages of the program, preparing for a seventh and final payment request that could mobilize approximately €25,862 million. This final phase is subject to the European Commission verifying the fulfillment of remaining milestones and targets. All objectives must be met by August 31, 2026, with final payment requests submitted by September and disbursements completed by the end of December 2026.
