Spain receives third Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft

Spain has completed its acquisition of three Airbus A330-200 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft. Airbus Defence and Space delivered the third unit to the Spanish Ministry of Defense, marking the fulfillment of a contract initiated in November 2021.

The aircraft will be operated by the 45th Wing of the Air and Space Force, based at Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base near Madrid. These multi-mission platforms are capable of both long-range strategic transport and aerial refueling, providing significant capabilities to the Spanish Armed Forces.

The program involved converting three former Iberia commercial A330-200 aircraft into military platforms. This process allowed the aircraft to serve in transport roles while undergoing the industrial conversion required for refueling systems. The delivery ceremony took place at the Airbus facilities in Getafe.
