Spain: Regional debates intensify over youth housing and public spending

In Valencia, the Generalitat has launched the 2026 Youth Rent Bonus (Bono Lloguer Jove) with a budget of nearly 30 million euros, representing a 30% increase from the previous call. The program provides 250 euros per month for 24 months, totaling 6,000 euros per beneficiary, to assist young people with housing access. First Vice President Susana Camarero stated that the program aims to facilitate youth emancipation and has implemented administrative simplifications to allow for easier application and labor mobility.

In Catalonia, political debate has emerged regarding public spending priorities. VOX deputy Sergio Macián criticized the 390 million euro allocation for the Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals (TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio). Macián argued that these funds could instead be used to construct approximately 3,000 social housing units to assist young people in achieving independence.
