Spain reports over 106,000 active gender violence cases

Spain's Ministry of the Interior reports 106,549 active cases of gender violence within the VioGén system. Of these, 21 are classified as extreme risk and 1,157 as high risk. The data shows significant regional distribution, with Andalusia holding the highest number of cases, followed by the Valencian Community and Madrid.

In the Canary Islands, five 24-hour crisis centers for sexual violence victims have provided 1,369 interventions since May 2025. These services include psychological, legal, and social support for 1,169 direct victims and 200 family members. Statistics indicate that in approximately 39% of these cases, the aggressor was a person close to the victim, with 20% being a current or former partner.

In the Balearic Islands, the IBDona institute recorded 2,731 calls during the first half of 2026, with nearly 92% related to gender-based violence. The institution has increased its nocturnal presence to provide better support during summer months. The most common profile of those seeking help is Spanish women aged between 31 and 40.
