Spain reports rise in cybercrime with 8,508 cases investigated

Spain has seen a rise in cybercrime, with 8,508 cases investigated in the first six months of the year. This represents a 1% increase compared to the same period in 2025, averaging nearly two scams every hour.

In Malaga, authorities investigated a case where a 52-year-old woman posing as a lawyer defrauded investors in luxury real estate in Marbella. One victim lost 100,000 euros during a mansion transaction.

Cybercrimes account for 87% of all recorded digital frauds. A significant trend includes romance scams, where criminal networks target vulnerable individuals through digital profiles. These emotional deceptions can result in losses exceeding 300,000 euros.
