Spain requests final €25.8 billion EU recovery fund installment

The Spanish government has submitted its seventh and final payment request under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), totaling €25,861 million. This request is the largest recorded by a member state, covering 148 milestones and objectives, which represents approximately 30% of the total plan. The funds include €21,463 million in non-reimbursable transfers and €4,398 million in loans.

Minister of Economy Carlos Cuerpo reported that the plan has reached nearly 1.5 million beneficiaries, with small and medium-sized enterprises making up 68% of recipients. Significant progress has been made in social housing, with the construction of 23,000 rental units initiated, 16,000 of which are already completed.

Despite the government's positive assessment, the opposition, led by the People's Party, has criticized the management of the funds. Critics pointed out that approximately €30,000 million of the €102,000 million allocated by the European Commission remained unresolved when the formal deadline passed, suggesting that Spain is concluding the plan with less financing than originally anticipated.
