Spain: Retirees eligible for monthly pension supplements

Thousands of retirees in Spain may be eligible for a monthly supplement to their contributory pensions aimed at reducing the gender gap. This benefit is designed to compensate for the impact that childcare may have had on professional careers and subsequent pension amounts.

For the year 2026, the supplement is set at 36.90 euros per month for each recognized child, up to a maximum of four children. This results in monthly payments of 73.80 euros for two children, 110.70 euros for three, and 147.60 euros for four or more children. While originally intended to address the career interruptions faced by mothers, men may also access this benefit if they meet the established requirements and have a recognized contributory pension.
