Spain rolls out national environmental education strategy and expands school workshops in Soria

The Spanish Directorate General of the Environment has approved a new Strategy for Environmental Education for Sustainability, allocating €100,000 to bolster training and awareness. Director General Cristina Zafra said the plan “is born from a real participatory process, where different actors have identified needs in environmental education.” The strategy also revives the Sectorial Environmental Council to coordinate projects on habitat restoration, fire prevention and climate‑adaptation measures.

In the city of Soria, the municipal council and the regional government have launched a spring campaign involving 966 primary and secondary students. The mayor highlighted that “sustainability is a commitment of the government team from day one,” and stressed that “environmental education is fundamental for making the city’s investment efforts meaningful.” Activities include river‑bank walks, biodiversity workshops and inclusive sensory sessions for children with special needs, aiming to foster long‑term stewardship of the local green corridor.
