Spain school costs rise to 2,480 euros per student

Spanish families are facing rising costs for the upcoming school year. According to a study by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), the average annual expenditure per student has reached approximately 2,480 euros, representing a 4% increase from the previous year. This total includes an initial outlay of about 505 euros for books, uniforms, and supplies.

Costs vary significantly by school type: public education averages around 1,300 euros, while private education can exceed 8,700 euros per student. Regional differences are also notable, with Madrid reporting the highest annual costs per child at 3,512 euros.

In Castilla-La Mancha, President Emiliano García-Page announced that the 2026-27 school year will begin with nearly 900 more teachers than last year. He also highlighted plans to advance a Vocational Training Law to address labor shortages and emphasized efforts to maintain universal and free education, including extending tuition waivers for high-achieving university students.
