Spain 2025 crime stats show rise in sexual offenses

Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) released 2025 crime data showing a mixed picture. Overall convictions fell 0.2% to 306,237 adults, but convictions for sexual offences rose 15.1% to 4,531, 97.6% of them male. Among minors (ages 14‑17), total convictions dropped 1.8% to 13,245, yet sexual‑offence convictions increased 6.2% to 584, 97.1% male. The data highlight regional disparities: Ceuta and Melilla recorded the highest crime rates per 1,000 inhabitants, while Galicia saw 28 minors convicted of sexual offences (an 18% decline but still the fourth‑highest region), and Asturias posted the highest minor offence rate at 23.4 per 1,000. The INE report also notes that the majority of convicted adults and minors are Spanish nationals, though foreign‑born adults have a higher conviction rate per capita.
