Spain sees 26% rise in international fertility patients

Spain is establishing itself as a leading international destination for assisted reproduction treatments. According to data from the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF), 34,849 women traveled from abroad to undergo fertility procedures in the country, representing a 26.4% increase compared to the previous year.

This growth in international patients contrasts with a modest 0.7% increase in domestic demand. The rise in reproductive tourism is attributed to Spain's advanced medical technology, high success rates, and a legal framework—specifically Law 14/2006—that facilitates access for diverse family models, including single mothers and female couples.

Recent trends show a shift in requested procedures: 53.4% of international cases involved egg donation, and there was a 37.5% increase in cycles utilizing preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Notably, treatments for female couples rose by 105.8%, while the number of single women seeking maternity doubled.
