Spain sees new environmental objections to biomethane plant in Baena and data centre in Navalmoral

Izquierda Unida (IU) in Baena, Andalusia, submitted 14 formal objections to the regional government over a proposed biomethane plant to be built alongside the Oleícola El Tejar facility. The allegations call for a joint impact assessment, stricter controls on noise, emissions, methane leaks, water and soil protection, and demand additional technical studies and emergency plans. IU seeks either denial of the integrated environmental permit or, if approved, the strongest possible safeguards for local residents and the environment.

The Association for the Defense of Nature and Resources of Extremadura (Adenex) lodged objections to the environmental licensing of a new data‑processing centre in Navalmoral de la Mata, Extremadura. The group highlights missing information on water use, stream impacts, noise, heat, vegetation loss and the risks associated with large diesel fuel storage for backup generators. Adenex urges the regional authority to reject the permit or issue an unfavorable environmental opinion unless the identified risks can be fully mitigated.
