Spain sees new labor protests over wages in Mallorca and Vigo

The municipal waste‑collection service in the Balearic town of Sóller will be halted from 17 July after the UGT union called an indefinite strike, citing a deterioration of working conditions and a demand to retain the pre‑agreement holiday pay of €182 per day.

In Vigo on the mainland, workers at a Dia supermarket staged a protest outside the store, demanding that the chain honor the provincial collective bargaining agreement for food‑service employees. The action follows pending court cases involving about 53 workers who claim they are being paid below the agreed rates.

Both actions reflect growing wage disputes among Spanish workers in the public‑service and retail sectors.
