Spain sees shift in dining habits and Ibiza's cultural nightlife importance
In Spain, dining habits are shifting toward earlier hours. According to an analysis by CoverManager, the average dinner reservation time for weekdays and Sundays has moved to 20:00. On Fridays and Saturdays, the average remains at 21:00. This change is driven by domestic preferences rather than tourism; the percentage of diners booking before 21:00 via Spanish phone numbers rose from 31.5% in 2016 to 56.9% in 2026. Conversely, late reservations after 22:00 have dropped from 30% to 15%, and bookings after 23:00 have decreased by 67%.
CoverManager’s Director General, Toni Escribano, suggests that health consciousness and a desire for better rest are primary motivators, noting that the pandemic acted as a catalyst for these habits.
Separately, the Consell Econòmic i Social (CES) has highlighted the cultural importance of Ibiza’s nightlife in its 2025 report. The CES describes the activity of large nightclubs and clubs as “essential” to the island's culture, citing UNVRS, which accommodates up to 15,000 people daily, as an example. The report emphasizes that Ibiza offers a diverse cultural landscape, ranging from international music concerts to archaeological visits at the Puig des Molins Necropolis.
