Spain seizes 6,000 illegal street‑vendor items in Vila‑seca; three police injured in Torrevieja

Local police in Vila‑seca, a town on Spain’s Costa Dorada, carried out a night‑time operation on July 15 to combat illegal street‑vendor activity. Coordinated between the Vila‑seca municipal police and the Mossos d'Esquadra, officers surrounded sellers on the new Pau Casals promenade and confiscated roughly 6,000 items, mainly counterfeit football shirts along with sunglasses and bags. The seized goods were taken to a Sirusa incineration plant for destruction. Mayor Pere Segura emphasised the municipality’s commitment to keeping public spaces safe and orderly.

In a separate incident in Torrevieja on the Andalusian coast, three local police officers were wounded during a clash with street vendors on the harbour promenade. One officer suffered a lip injury and concussion that required evacuation, while two others received minor injuries after a vendor struck them with a police baton. The confrontation escalated after officers demanded vendors clear the area, leading to an arrest and the deployment of four Guardia Civil patrols to assist. Local officials warned that tensions have risen in recent weeks as authorities intensify actions against illegal vending.
