Spain selects 77 athletes for European Athletics Championships in Birmingham

The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) announced a pre‑selection of 77 athletes – 35 women and 42 men – to represent Spain at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, scheduled for 10–16 August 2026. The list includes athletes from across the country, such as Marta García (5000 m bronze medallist in Rome 2024) and Jorge Blanco (marathon), as well as emerging talents like David Barroso, who won the Spanish 800 m title in Málaga and holds the second‑best Spanish time of 1:43.60, and marathoner Laura Luengo, whose 2:22:31 is the second‑fastest ever recorded by a Spanish woman.

Eight athletes who won medals at the previous European Championships in Rome 2024 are confirmed for Birmingham, while an additional 18 athletes remain on a waiting list pending the final Road to Birmingham rankings. The squad also features representatives from regions such as Castilla y León, Extremadura and León, covering a full range of track and field events, from sprints and hurdles to distance running and race walking.
