Spain sets September 10 deadline for special education grants

The Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports has set a deadline of September 10, 2026, at 15:00 (peninsular time) for families to apply for grants for students with specific educational support needs (NEAE) for the 2026-2027 academic year. Applications are primarily processed electronically through the Ministry's official website.

These grants cover various expenses, including tuition, transportation, dining, residence, school supplies, and pedagogical or language re-education. The program also includes a complementary subsidy of 400 euros to assist families with additional costs. Notably, the wealth thresholds for eligibility have increased by an average of 10% for this cycle.

In the province of Pontevedra, state aid for NEAE students reached over 10.3 million euros during the 2025-2026 course, benefiting 6,660 students. This represents a significant increase in funding and beneficiaries compared to 2018. Local entities such as Amencer-ASPACE, which operates centers in Pontevedra, Vigo, and Vilagarcía de Arousa, serve as examples of how these funds provide concrete opportunities for students with disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or high intellectual capacities.
