Spain shines at Skyrunning World Championships 2026 in La Gomera

The 2026 Skyrunning World Championships on La Gomera have commenced with results from the Ultra and Vertical disciplines.

In the Ultra distance, Spain secured two silver medals. Mireia Pons Torres finished second with a time of 8:02:51, narrowly defeating American Careth Arnold by nine seconds. The women's race was won by Norway's Shangave Balendran. In the men's Ultra category, Julen Calvo Vigara took silver with a time of 6:19:02, following winner Cristian Minoggio. Samuel Ponce secured third place.

The Vertical race, covering 4.9 kilometers with 950 meters of elevation gain, saw 21-year-old Spaniard Lluis Puigvert claim the senior world title with a time of 36:36.75. Switzerland's Paola Stampanoni won the women's Vertical title. The event features 270 athletes from 38 nations competing through September 20.
