Spain Social Security confirms compatibility of birth and lactation leave

Spanish Social Security has confirmed that birth leave and lactation leave are compatible and independent of one another. Both measures aim to assist parents in balancing their professional careers with childcare.

Birth, adoption, or foster care leave is available to workers and provides 100% of the regulatory base salary. For biparental families, the leave lasts 19 weeks per parent, while monoparental families receive 32 weeks. Within this period, the first six weeks must be taken uninterrupted and immediately following the birth.
