Spain speed cameras issue high volumes of traffic fines

Traffic enforcement via speed cameras has resulted in significant fines across different regions in Spain. In San Vicente del Raspeig (Alicante), a mobile radar operated by the Local Police sanctioned 120 drivers in just 40 minutes on Río Turia street. This high volume of infractions, averaging three per minute, carries penalties of up to 600 euros and the loss of up to 6 driver's license points.

In Girona, the city's speed camera network has issued more than 41,000 sanctions during its first year of operation. A significant portion of these, 22,309 fines, were concentrated at a single location on Avinguda Josep Tarradellas near the Maristes school. While some areas have seen a decrease in infractions as drivers adjust their behavior, local officials note that the cameras have improved safety and quality of life for pedestrians.
